Oh-hi-oh Sarah's final letter from the MTC

Hey-o! Honestly, I feel like I just emailed you guys yesterday. This week was probably quicker than the week before I left. Trevor and Amanda, thanks for emailing me. Work seems to be keepin' the both of you busy. Like Trevor said, it is, in fact, all in the wrist. I would know, I scooped ice for a solid 5 minutes at your guys' wedding. Love you two. Emily, SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER! Don't be too sad about your Highland friends. Be excited for what's to come. You are going to thrive at Century, and I am positive there is going to be more girls that will be in your exact situation. I love you tons, girl. Dad, Thanks for your email and dear elder. It's rough not having my "dad hugs" anymore, so getting that dear elder really helped me this week. You're the best dad. I love you most. Mom, I love you. Seriously, I can't even talk about you on my mission because it makes all other moms sound like crap, and I don't want to come across as braggy. But, you are the best, and I can't wait to talk to you tomorrow. I can't wait to talk to all of you tomorrow.

This week has been awesome. My "investigator" here at the MTC turned out to be an actual investigator. Her name is Janie. She agreed to be baptized, and we might end up teaching her over skype. It truly is amazing seeing people feel the spirit. It's like she's known everything we've taught her, she just didn't know she knew it. I love teaching her more, and telling her. I can feel how much Heavenly Father loves her when I'm teaching her. This gospel is amazing. I just love being a missionary. I can't wait to continue teaching in Ohio.

Well, I leave the MTC tomorrow. This has been quite the experience. I have never loved working so hard, but I am excited to leave. I have, however, had the nervous poops all day. It's a weird feeling getting ready to leave. It's almost like leaving home again. My teacher, Sister Harrison, told us that as long as we remember the the name below our names on our tags, that we'll be alright. Jesus Christ has become my best friend since leaving home. I am so grateful for Him. I am so grateful I get to teach people about Him. Because of Him, we get to live with our Heavenly Father again. That is the greatest gift any of us could ever receive.

I don't have much more time to email, but I plan on calling pretty early tomorrow morning. I leave the MTC around 3:30 tomorrow morning, and I don't leave SLC until 7:30, so sometime before that. I'm sorry for being annoying and calling super early, but I figured all of you would be home by that time. Plans may change, and if they do I'll call you guys and tell you the new plan before 7:30. I love all of you, and I am so excited to talk to you guys. I am so happy I get to be with all of you forever.

Love,
Sister Reddish

18 months really isn't that long....Sarah's 2nd letter from the MTC

Hola, mi familia!

Sounds like another fun filled week at the Reddish home. I'm happy to hear Jacob did so wonderfully on his farewell talk. He's going to be such an amazing missionary. I'm so excited for him to start this remarkable experience. Also, all of your emails made me el-oh-el in the middle of this quiet computer room. I am so happy you guys are my family.

Mom, I had a dream about you this week! I had a dream you and I went to a David Archuleta concert together and towards the beginning of the concert I was like "man, I really feel like some chicken nuggetes", and you spent the whole concert trying to find me chicken nuggets. I woke up thinking "Wow, I got the best mom on this whole planet." I really do. Thanks for everything. The packages, the dear elders... You are the best and I love you. Emily, driving for the first time, huh? Man of man, you've grown up so much already. Also, hip-hip horray for almost being done with school. Now you get to party with mom and be on instagram all day. Congrats on the grades.  Love you tons. Dad, edit edit..potty humor Love you so much, Dad!

Well, folks, this week was a good one. Real good. I really am learning to love my companion. She is a reallly nice girl, and trying hard to be the best missionary she can be. The Lord really has blessed me. He also blessed me with the best district in the whole world. I have became really close to one of the sisters. Her name is Sister Thompson. She's hilarious. We had a new district added to our zone this week and they didn't really talk much to us. Sister Thompson thought it would be a good idea to tell them a joke to break the ice. So, she went up to all the sisters and said, "Hey, sisters, I know 18 months seem like a lot, but I've been pregnant twice and it really isn't that long". Long story short, they still don't really like us.

In other news, I saw Elder and Sister Reddish this week. That was crazy. I think there real names are Allen and Martha? I saw them at dinner yesterday. They're so nice, and it was so fun to see them. I also leave the MTC next Tueday. I get to email you on Monday, so I will give you the details on when I will probably call then.

This week, the main focus for our zone was repentance. You guys repentance is the most amazing thing. It seriously is the greatest gift we have been given. "Repentance isn't for bad people, it's for good people striving to be better". Without repentance, none of us would be able to live with Heavenly Father again. I am so grateful for the Jesus Christ and His Atonement. I love teaching people about Him. I love wearing his name over my heart every day. I truly love Him.

I sure love you guys. Thanks for all your support. I really am the luckiest missionary out in the field. Have a good week!

Love,
Sister Reddish

"The days felt like years" Sarah's first email from the MTC

Sarah's first email from the MTC was a memorable one. I was able to email back and forth with her for a few seconds after she sent this, this made my whole week! Here it is:

Hello, family!!!

I'm going to be honest right now, I am very nervous about this whole emailing thing. I want them to be funny, but at the same time I want you guys to see how much I have already grown. I'll try to even it out. I also feel like my emails need to be as long as Joshua's. Man, that kid was impressive. I'm going to strive to be as impressive as he was, but no promises.

Well, folks, it was great to read all your emails. I was definitely blessed with the best family in the whole world. Mom, thank you so much for your dear elders and package. It really does make days ten times better when you get a letter from the best mom on the planet. You are the best. Dad, your dear elder literally made me pee pants. Oh my word, what you said about Little Ceasars, I couldn't even handle it. Emily, why the heck didn't you get roller skates, ya nut? Have fun paying off those sandals, and take advantage of Mom and Dad getting you anything you want. Just fake cry every once and a while. Who knows, you could have your own car by the time I get home. Love and miss you too, little mexi.

Well, this week has been one of the greatest, hardest, happiest weeks of my whole life. I'm going to be honest with you, that first day as hard for me. When I wrote that first email, I was just saying happy things so you guys wouldn't freak out. Saying goodbye to you guys sucked some major butt...sorry, that language isn't missionary like, but it accurately describes how I was feeling. But now, I can honestly say THAT I LOVE BEING ON A MISSION! I have never felt closer to Jesus Christ, and I have never loved working so hard. My companion...All I am going to say is that I have prayed for patience a lot this week, but I love her. Luckily, I got put in the best district ever. Mom, I am a missionary, so I am not going to say if the Elders are attractive, but I will tell you that Elder Allen has a beautiful face. The food here has made my tummy feel super sick.  I had to go on what I like to call a "lady diet". I named this diet after my favorite lady, Josh Reddish. My diet is now veggies, fruit, and cereal. Mom, I promise I am eating and drinking enough. The MTC is a pretty remarkable place. It's crazy how strong the spirit is everywhere. Right now my days include studying for about 4 hours, and then teaching "investigators", but really they're just members pretending to be atheist. The days seem long, but this week felt short. I really do love it here. I have been "Disneyland happy" all week.

I want to share something with you guys that I thought was a great thought for everybody. On Sunday I got to watch a devotional from a few years ago called "Characteristics of Christ" by Bednar. On Sunday I was having a rough day with my companion and being a little pansy. But in it he was talking about Christ and said something along the lines of "when we would turn in, Christ would turn out".These days might be hard, and I might not get along with everybody that I come in contact with, but I need to turn out like Christ. I need to love the people around me because Christ loves them as much as He loves me. This mission isn't about me or how well I get along with people, it's about bringing people to Christ, and I can't do that if I don't love them. That is the greatest lesson I have learned this week.

But, it appears I need to go do some laundry, but I love all you more than I could say. You guys are great. Have great weeks. Stay cool. Lol. Jk.

Tender Mercies

When we returned home from Provo we had our first email from Sarah! This is what it said:

Hello my cute family!
I made it! I'm at the MTC. I'm a missionary! It was a kind of rough beans getting here, but I'm doing great! I just found my classroom, and I am getting to meet my companion! I don't know when I'll get to email again, but it'll be sometime soon! I love you all so, so much! Don't be sad because I am already so happy!
Love,
Sister Reddish

Needless to say, we were so happy and started crying all over again, ha ha! Another tender mercy happened Thursday when I received some pics from my Aunt Debbie. She works at the MTC and Sarah found her and they snapped some pics of Sarah and her comp and her district! It was so wonderful to see her happy smiling face. Her P day will be Tuesdays in the MTC, that was so nice to know too. It was also so wonderful to see that black name badge on Sarah's heart. Yes, tears were shed again.

Just like that..We're off to Provo

Wednesday May 11th, 2016 came way too fast. It was a very short ride to Provo and a VERY long ride home. We got to Provo and drove around the new Provo City Temple and then tried to grab a bite to eat at Wendy's. Sarah was so strong and was vowing not to get too emotional. She was so nervous and yet excited too. The plan was to go to the Provo temple and take some pics and say goodbye and then over to the MTC. We ran into Sarah's roommate from BYU I and also Trevor's cousin, Maddy Thueson, at the temple grounds. This immediately helped Sarah feel less anxious and was a tender mercy of the Lord. We took some pics and visited for a bit and then it was off to the MTC. We ended up driving in right behind the Thueson's! Sarah and Maddy walked in together, it was pretty amazing it worked out like that and made us all feel better. It was a sad but happy day too, actually it was a lot more sad than happy. We are so proud of Sarah though, she will be an amazing missionary!

Being set apart as a missionary

Sarah was set apart as a missionary on Tuesday May 10, 2016 by President Bernt. President gave her a beautiful blessing and mentioned many things that were in Sarah's Patriarchal blessing. It gave us a lot of comfort to know that she would be protected and receive so many blessings by serving this mission. It was a emotional night, Sarah had to say final goodbyes to Grandmas and Grandpa, Lauren (her best friend), cousins, aunts and uncles, and especially Amanda and Trevor. Lots of tears, but we were all so proud of Sarah and her decision to serve. Families are forever, how grateful we are for this.

Pre-Mission Pics

Lizzy Cady, a childhood friend/former ward member and awesome photographer did some fun pictures of Sarah right before she left.

It's Farewell Time

Sarah gave her farewell talk on Sunday April 24, 2016. We had just returned from our trip to disneyland and Amanda would have her reception 5 days later and be married the next day. It was a busy week to say the least. Sarah did a beautiful job on her talk, and she spoke with Sister Kathy Davis from the ward.  She said she was "so nervous" but you couldn't tell. She spoke from her heart and everyone there knew this, her topic was on the Book of Mormon.  After the meeting we headed up to the house for a taco bar. We had many friends and family come support Sarah. It was a beautiful day, so much to celebrate.

One Last Family Vacation... Disneyland!

We were able to take a memorable trip to Disneyland when the semester ended at BYU I. Sarah earned straight A's this semester. This was not easy to do, Sarah was so excited to get to the mission field that studying was a challenge. We were so proud of her! Our trip was priceless time together and we had a blast!

Temple Trips

Sarah was able to attend the temple numerous times before her mission. She quickly learned to love going and serving in these sacred places.
